Palliative Care

This is a specialized medical care approach for the people who suffer from a serious medical illness or multitude of chronic medical conditions that affect the person’s life. Palliative Care aims to provide treatment and relief from the pain, discomfort and strain of a life threatening illness. The main aim is to improve life quality and offer support to help the patient and the family to cope with the illness.

Palliative care can be provided by an interdisciplinary team of professionals that include a doctor who has specialization if Palliative Care and has a degree or additional qualification in that area of expertise, and also by a trained team of nurses, doctors, dietitian, social workers and other specialists who work jointly with the patient’s doctor to provide additional support. Palliative care can be provided to the patient in the comfort of their home, nursing home or in a Palliative Care specialist’s office as suitable to them. It is applicable and suitable for any age and at any point in a serious illness and can be provided with the needed curative treatment.

Palliative care focuses on providing efficient treatment for the people suffering from the chronic medical condition symptoms and stress of serious illnesses such as congestive heart failure (CHF), Cancer, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD), Alzheimer’s Dementia, Parkinson’s Disease, Severe Debilitating Osteoarthritis, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) ,  and several more chronic diseases. The symptoms may include chronic pain, depression, shortness of breath, constipation, fatigue, and nausea, loss of appetite, chronic anxiety, difficulty sleeping, and requiring assistance with activities and perform independent activities of daily life and much more.

Palliative Care prioritizes spending time in discussing and communicating deeply with patient the needs they have and also provides emotional support to the patients and their family. The care for each person varies and it helps to give you controls over care and helping you to understand the available treatment options and determine what exactly one wants. Palliative Care will help you cope with the treatment procedure and gain the strength to keep with daily life and improve the quality of your life.
